This will be the second Blood Moon (also known as a lunar eclipse) of the year. And it’ll last a whopping one hour and 43 minutes, making it the longest one this century. But the eclipse’s impressive length also means that the Moon itself will actually look a little smaller and dimmer than usual. That’s because the Moon will be as far away as it gets from the Earth on its elliptical orbit, making the Moon appear smaller. But, the Moon also moves more slowly when it’s that far away, according to Frederick Walter, a professor of physics and astronomy at Stony Brook University. 75 stranded World Cup fans absconded in Russia, says official The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says 75 out of 230 stranded Nigerian Football fans absconded in Russia after the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The ministry’s spokesperson, Dr. Tope Elias-Fatile, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja that the fans absconded despite government’s efforts to repatriate them. Fatile said that 230 stranded Nigerian football fans were profiled to board chartered Ethiopian Airline to Abuja but at the last minute, only 155 boarded the flight. “As at the last count, over 230 stranded Nigerians had been cleared to board an Ethiopian Airline flight to Abuja; however, only 155 boarded the flight that arrived Friday night of July 22,” he said. He said that the ministry officials had to contribute to feed some of the stranded Nigerians in Moscow as many of them were left with nothing. Mandela Statue Unveiled at Cape Town City Hall The importance of honouring the legacy of late former President Nelson Mandela has been emphasised at the unveiling of a statue of the late struggle veteran on Tuesday afternoon. Dignitaries, including Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Mayor Patricia de Lille and Western Cape Premier Helen Zille, attended the unveiling of the Madiba statue and exhibition at the Cape Town City Hall. Demi Lovato Hospitalized After Suspected Heroin Overdose Demi Lovato has reportedly been hospitalized following a suspected heroin overdose. The pop star, 25, was transported from her home in the Hollywood Hills to a Los Angeles-area hospital on Tuesday after paramedics found her unconscious, TMZ reported. The site also said she was treated with Narcan, an emergency treatment for narcotics overdoses.
