A BREAKDOWN OF THE 33 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT BILLS PASSED BY THE SENATE; INTERPRETATIONS AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS.

Just as promised some weeks ago, the 8th Senate under the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki is fulfilling the Constitutional amendment process. The senate is riding on an already established record of numerous bill passage within its first 2yrs of inauguration. Thus, it is making a giant stride with the constitution review considerations. The Constitution review committee, as chaired by the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, this week submitted 33 bills on the floor of the house for considerations. And we the use of the Electronic voting system (e-voting), 29 out of it were successfully passed yesterday. Among the passed bills are the famous #nottoyoungtorun bill, Local government autonomy bill, restriction of tenure and financial autonomy of the states government. The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) has asked the Federal Government to save the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology by immediately taking over ownership of the institution from the present owners in the interest of the staff and students of the institution. The union also called on the Government to make public all the recovered money from politicians and public office holders and inject the money into the economy to help get the country of recession. In a communique at the end of its National Executive Council meeting, the union expressed dismay that both Oyo and Osun state governments who are joint owners of the institution have abandoned jeopardizing the careers of its members, lives of students and other members of the University community. Whistle-Blower Imprisoned Over Fake Info After Raiding Ex-VP Namadi Sambo's House

A Kaduna State High Court, on Thursday, remanded a whistle-blower, Abubakar Sani-Chindo, in prison for allegedly providing false information that led to the raid on former Vice-President Namadi Sambo’s residence in Kaduna by officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offence Commission on June 28. Sambo’s house was raided thrice by the anti-graft agency, but failed to find incriminating documents or stashed cash in the building. The ICPC, in two counts before Justice Aliyu Mohammed, accused Sani-Chindo of providing the false information that led to the reported raid. Counsel for the ICPC, Elijah Akaakohol, added that the whistle-blower sometime on June 21, 2017 gave the false information to the commission. Count one of the charges read, “That you, Abubakar Sani-Chindo (alias Abdullahi Mohammed) (m), sometime on  June  21, 2017 or thereafter at Kaduna, Kaduna State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court knowingly gave a false information to a

Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Wednesday stated that noise-making senators will be walked out of the chamber, especially during plenary. Saraki made the threat to his colleagues after he observed that the noise from senators who were talking during plenary was disturbing the process. The Senate President, who was angered by the development, urged senators who had personal issues to discuss to proceed to the coffee room if they would not observe the rule of the chamber to keep quiet during plenary.
