The Federal Government is to speed up repatriating its citizens from Libya which has been accused of exploiting and ill-treating migrants, the foreign affairs minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, said in Tripoli on Saturday. Onyeama told a news conference that Nigeria was chartering two aircraft to repatriate over the next few days 800 of its citizens who wanted to go home. Almost 1,300 Nigerian migrants were brought home from Libya last November - nearly twice as many as in the previous month, the head of Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency said in December. FG repatriates 242 Nigerians from Libya Following several ‘save our soul’ messages from Nigerian migrants stranded in Libya, the Federal Government has responded to the maltreatment of its citizen in the country. Nigerians numbering 242 from Libya were returned to the country on Tuesday evening. The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos on Libyan Airline plane. A recording artist, Nikki Laoye, was at the airport along with officials of National Emergency Management Agency, International Organization of Migration and National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons to receive the Libyan returnees. Senator awards 20 students scholarships to study in Sudan The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District (APC), Sen. Shehu Sani, has offered scholarships to 20 students from his constituency to study various courses at the University of Khartoum, Sudan. He disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on Wednesday shortly before their departure to Sudan. Sani said the students were selected from the local governments that made up the Kaduna Central Senatorial district. He said, “Education is key to social and economic development, hence our decision to sponsor the students to further their studies.
